Case Studies/Ford Electronic Instrument Cluster Lens

Ford Electronic Instrument Cluster Lens

The Background

In the mid 1970s ADS was at the forefront of the automotive industry’s move away from floodlit painted metal dials towards backlit printed plastic appliques with their famed ‘secret-till-lit’ graphics.

The Challenge

In more recent times the automotive instrument cluster has undergone a second revolution with the move away from traditional dial-and-pointer products towards full electronic displays.

The Solution

Far from being a threat to ADS’s core business this change has seen the company develop its ‘next generation’ product line which takes the form of printed lens filters which enhance these electronic displays with dead-fronted, anti-glare, anti-reflective coatings while incorporating elements of the company’s traditional printing technology. The result is a seamless integrated display which is both functional and aesthetically appealing.
