ADS had the opportunity to work with its customer to design and develop a unique process for this Microsoft-branded computer mouse. The challenge was to achieve the look and feel of leather on a low-cost consumer electronics product.
Finding a material that conveyed the look and feel of leather and developing a method to replicate that appearance on a rigid plastic component.
Creating a technique to mold this plastic ‘leather’ into a rigid product without compromising quality.
Successfully developing a 3D trimming process, which required clean, thread-free edges. To solve this, ADS introduced an advanced two-shot In-Mold Decoration (IMD) technique that enhanced aesthetics and encapsulated edges in soft-touch plastic.
By replacing the printed foil with simulated leather fabric, the final product achieved an authentic and luxurious appearance, thereby significantly enhancing the user experience.
